green_amber: (polls)
On Sunday I did a poll which inter alia asked:

"How much a week would you pay for access to a GP? (wouldn't have to pay tax to fund it anymore)?"

There was a slight element of dubiety in the response to this - of the "why are you asking this when I'm quite happy paying NI?" variety.

But most people seemed quite happy to answer: the median result was that people would be happy to pay £3-£5 a week (pretty much what I'd have said) though 13 people were happy to pay more than this (and of course, some less).

Well, the reason I asked, was cos I was reading an article on Sunday which said how much the GP part of the NHS costs in billions per year. Which sounded a lot. But if you worked it out, it came out to £2 per week per UK person. And I thought "if you told people they were paying £2 a week for their GP - well they'd mostly say, what a bargain!"

So that's why I did the poll, Yonmei : I'm sure you'll be disappointed to know I haven't become a crypto US libertarian:-)

I'd now quite like to see a list in £ per week of what we pay for various sevices: education, Higher education, health globally, fire services, etc etc.

(And before you ask: no I'm not sure if the figure above is per UK person, or per taxpayer. I've thrown out the paper :( (the Independent, if anyone can be bothered to find it online..)

Right, back to welfare vs justice!!(IF anyone's got any original views out there on youth serial offending, restorative justice or whether glue sniffing should be a ground for incarceration, do tell!!)
