Sex and specs, redux

Following Zara's recent poll (sorry, too knackered for all those underscores!) it seems to me I must know SOMEONE who can SEE!!!!

[Poll #1179717]

I'm making roast peppers with cherry tomatoes and garlic in them AND grilled stuffed mushrooms with nice cheese on top :)

While I am technically short-sighted, and have answered that way, it's about 0.5 dioptre in each eye and I only wear glasses for driving. My prescription hasn't changed since 1990, although my optician assures me that I should expect varifocals to enter my life Real Soon Now.

Ditto.
I'm technically short-sighted, and have answered that way, it's about 0.5 dioptre in each eye and I only wear glasses for driving, and at the end of long days when I've been staring at screens, and haven't had enough sleep.

I have about four peppers in the fridge - I think I need to do something similar.

I have better than notional 'perfect' sight - the last few times I did an eye test, I came out at something like 20/12. Yes, I'm the annoying person who when asked to read the bottom line of the test chart comes back with " 'M' 'A' 'D' 'E' 'I' 'N' 'C' 'H' 'I' 'N' 'A'..."

This is counterbalanced by my being a bit deaf. Actually, my absolute hearing ability seems to have improved a bit since I was 18 (I had a bad ear infection as a teenager), but I still suffer from great difficulty in hearing anything against a noisy background, hence my near-permanent "WHAT?" in convention bars.

My best friend has sight like this. I get to mock her periodically for such silliness as fitting her resume onto one page by using 6 pt type.

Argh for the hearing problem, though.

I, too, have the perfect eyesight and the encroaching deafness. So my sex-and-disability story features exchanges like "fancy a shag?" -- "what?".

I'm both shortsighted and weirdsighted. I might be able to get my left eye back in working order, but it'd require a partial transplant, and I'm not that pissed off by it.

I am too shortsighted to even be considered for Lasik surgery -- -8.5 in one eye, -9.0 in the other.

But my near vision is also declining and I'll need bifocals this year or next.

I love my varifocals.

Just saying.

I'm a bit short sighted, but it's really my astigmatism that's a problem....

[identity profile] surliminal.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes me too, in 1 eye anyway - too bad for daily contact lenses :(
also now on to varifocals hence the "weirdsighted".

I have (acquired) pseudomyopia, a "learned" inability to relax the ciliary muscle. This manifests as blurred distance vision, which I correct by wearing glasses to drive and when in the cinema.

The opthalmologist who diagnosed my assured me I would recover my vision if I refrained from focussing on things within arms' length for more than a few minutes at a time, for a year or so. Um.

Short-sighted, but not so bad, so I only need to wear glasses for driving and watching High Definition TV. I have had a pair of varifocals for a couple of years, but hardly ever use them (I think my near sight just got better).
