Novacon was fine, but I have to say the dinner I had last night was more fun cubed and squared in about 3 hours flat I didn't stop laughing once .. SIGGHHH -- why am I such a sucker for incredibly intelligent lucid clued up interdisciplinary people? (No, this is not anyone you know!) He was the third person in 3 days to tell me I should just get on with it and move to London - the fates do seem to be telling me something..

For the third year running, Novacon turned for me into less of a con and more an oportunity to sleep in, recover from work and have a swim (I didn't even get around to wearing my corset after all that - ah well, B Movie?) I did have a lovely Chinese with Anne and Mike WANOLJ but otherwise it was slough all the way. OH and slagging off Torchwood on the TV panel, as promised, and arguing with Greg on the Eastercon panel who was being even more pillock-like than usual. yeh truely, corset workshops and Aristophanes are ALL About SF. For sure. I may EVEN WRITE A LOC to Banana Wings.). Meanwhile re Novacon.. This may on the whole be a good thing (I even managed to finally do the long awaited Telewest Call on Saturday) but I'm still not convinced the best place to do it is Walsall. I like [livejournal.com profile] bohemiancoast's idea of a fannish weekend in Belgian Centre Parcs - cute self catering chalets, lovely pool, ecologically sound bikes, satay and moules frites and 30 diferent types of belgian beer... anyone up for it? (No this does not have to clash with Eastercon!!) I was thinking maybe Feb/March..

Off to give paper at DDOS conf. Slightly scared and very tired - wish me luck!

The good stuff:

= stuff I ought to remember
(a) Spamhaus might want me to do consultancy for them on the legitimacy of spam filtering given (a) RIPA (b) DP/PECD (c) confidentiality (d) ISP immunities ; this is great as they are my heroes and this is an area I'm really interested in

(b) I met the new compouter security prof at UCL who was a hoot and we agreed to swap seminars for our respective students..

(c) I met the police guy in charge of prosecuting Lennon in the latest DDOS case - also really hot stuff.. - and Richard Clayton, the main guy at APIG/DEmon/ISPA, who writes the consultancy papers on IT law stuff for Parliament .. and [livejournal.com profile] ciphergoth whose mind was blown that I could guess at least 2 of his previous poly partners..

.. all good stuff. i do feel like my life is full of possibilities right now. At work, anyway. Shame about the rest..
