This - http://twittervision.com/ - is an amazing hypnotic trancescape of watching tiny text msgs appear every few seconds from round the world.

Oddly the title is mine but it came off a blog called Virtual China..

Post LJ panel at eastercon thought..

Someone (oh all right, Julia:-) was complaining that she didn't always know about parties and things nowadays, because they would get mentioned on LJ, which she wasn't (and doesn't want to be) on. To which i replied that I hadn't known about Julia's OWN party, which turned out to be because her emails had got lost in the spam filter..

.. and then I was thinking about how useful Google calendar can be to synch with what other people are doing. TBH I don't put my own doings on G Calendar because I don't want people to know exactly what I'm doing!! but as a piece of scheduling public shareable software it is really handy.

And then I thought : why not have a public fandom/LJ party calendar? Advantages:

- no more posts asking "does this date clash with anything else?" and faikling to discover it does till 2 weeks before..

- easy way to find out if something fun is on if eg you're planning a weekend to London anyay (or Edinburgh, or Sheffield or wherever)

- no more need to frantically check LJ to see if you missed something like a party invite, nor to keep plugging your party invite in case someone missed it :-)

- no need to be on LJ to keep up with the party scene!

Of course this won't work for small bijou sekrit parties but this sorta thing isn't a problem for that kind of party anyway.

Cons could also be put on to the grid by some kind volunteer!
