cansada muy cansada!
May. 9th, 2007 07:03 pmHave just been told I sound American even when trying to speak Spanish. This is getting ridiculous..
Very very frustrating day involved mostly trying to buy tomorrow's train ticket to France at Barcelona's main train station, Sants. No, you can't buy it over the phone. Noo, you can't buy it on the Internet. Noooo, you can't just turn up on the day and buy it: you can't stand on Spanish trains,so it basically means having a reservation or risking quite a high chance of not getting on. Which means everyone has to turn up in fucking person - all several hundred of them, because Barca is the centre of the world's backpacking round Europe set. The Spanish clearly know what a fucking awful system this is because it's a take a number, take a seat set up. For two hours. When I got there the counter waxs at 417, and I was doled out 28; I could only pray it turned over at 500, and not, say, 1000. And it was lunchtime, which in Spain means most the afternoon, so only one or two kiosks open....I successively bought two coffees, a ham roll, an empanadilla with spinach, a book, the international Guardian, found the toilets (closed), found the open toilets(ick), considered shouting that I had a bomb and dashing into the queue while everyone was distracted, and generally tried not to go mad .. jesus wept. Spain really needs to ger the hang of the Internet, and fast. (I guess that's why I'm here..:)
Recovered with retail therapy on the Ramblas. (Too cloudy today for beach.)Too amny poor little animals in cages on street market - Best Pal would not approve at all, even if is traditional. Found an amazing street in the Gothic barrio devoted entirely to jewellery shopping. AS this is my favourite spectator sport, it took some time to explore... Resisted buying any, in fact, but caved in to wholesale shop selling wonderful summer scarves as i WAS faintly cold (wearing only skimpy red sun dress.) That and a glass of cava helped with recovery - somewhat!
Dancing operating theatre surgeons on Canal + now - que?
Tomorrow - Francia and Narbonne!
EDIT: And now on Canal +, football INGLES!!!! Wha? WEll, I suppose it is Man Utd..
