Well I seem to have a had an unofficial Day Off To Get Things Done. Unintended, but actually rather a good idea, given it's out of term, quiet at work, and I finished a big chapter yesterday (20,000 words), and was a bit stonked out on family law. Biggest surprise is that for some while I've been thinking, basically, "I'm not seeing very well" but avoiding doing anything about it in case it lead to --- gaaaahhhhh ... varifocals. Kill me now.(Or glaucoma. But mainly, varifocals.)
In fact (on making last minute appointment today) it turns out I've got two steps more short sighted since 2003 , which is enough to make a new prescription worthwhile and let me see the numbers on busses comfortably again. So excited was I at this, that I've also picked new Calvin Klein frames straightaway, all on my lonesome, instead of my usual scaredy cat pattern of dragging in either or both of Mum and Best Pal to assist. It's funny how important glasses are to glasses wearers - you wear the damn things everyday after all - and how little variation we get in what we wear - the frames this time round were practically the same as they were in 2003 when I got my current. Major disappointment was discovering that the much ballyhooed daily toric lenses don't even remotely reach my level of astigmatism. Pah. Was looking forward to getting them for parties. They do have monthlies but.. Can't conceivably see me wearing them everyday - apart from the fact my eyes are almost constantly sore from dry eye syndrome and working too much on computers, I'm just crap at lenses - get em inside out, lose them, forget to disinfect em, etc etc. Dailies sounded fun though. Some days it would be nice not to look like a big sf freakoid (ie mon-myopic).
Am now having ridiculous crisis of confidence as to how to get to pub quiz tonight in most diet friendly way. Should I (a) walk there wich is a solid 40 minute walk so lotsa exercise or (b) drive there cos then I can only have 2 drinks = less calories?? yes I know, I know..
