Otherwise v civilised weekend, enhanced by ecstatic amounts of sun, good company and exquisite food. You take up Our Heroine recovering, joyfully hangover free ,from her wine-tasting adventure, and healthily walking to Newington to recover abandoned car. Do not go to Waitrose when hungry, quoth V: for it will destroy your bank balance. I broke this eleventh commandment however, and lo, he was right. But worse things happen than pan frying seabass in fennel butter, and fishcakes with a lemon cream sauce, plus colcannon, fresh green beans and cauliflower on the side, at 11 o clock of a Saturday night. Bizarre behaviour, yes ,but I didn't realise Superman Returns would go on till 10, when restaurants were at the turfing out stage and I was hungry enough to eat Andy's left kidney...
Sunday was still more Waitrose goodies, G & B cherry chocolate, a detour to the Virgin pool, and, dignity, cleanliness and footware recovered, dinner at David Banns with visiting German lesbian veggies. Where I had the most fabulous stuffed Portobello mushroom (some kind of nuts, with celeriac and potato, cooked to melting point in a mustardy sauce - delicious) and a share of three puds - fresh peach tarte tatin, choc pud and orange sorbet, and home made truffles with raspberry chocolate praline. Ah me. Anyone want to go back?
